Battle Ground Village in the News
Harvest Days has come and gone and made a lasting impression as it passed through Battle Ground Village.
July 2009
Battle Ground Village was pleased to be the host for this year's BG Community Library Book Sale, the first Annual Half Marathon benefiting the American Cancer Society, BG Farmer's Market, Vancouver Bike Club’s bike rally, Body Rhythms Dance Studio – dance exhibition and so much more.
The Vancouver Bike Club participated in this
year's Celebrate Harvest Days with Battle
Ground Village Events by leading a bike rally
on Friday and Saturday, July 17 and 18
sponsored by Battle Ground Village. The ride
started and ended in the Center Park Pavilion
of BG Village with a lot of fanfare and
excitement. The rides lead by Dennis Johnson
and Joe Toscano went from a gentle scenic
ride to a more advanced ride through Battle
Ground countryside and covered distances
from 22 to 27 miles, respectively. The bike rides were sponsored by Battle
Ground Village with catering provided by Kitchen Goddess and Goldies BBQ.
Battle Ground Village would like to encourage local bike clubs and organizations
to visit us.
The First Annual Half Marathon was an
overwhelming success with over 220 participants
running and walking 13.1 miles on Sunday, July
19. The participants showed up early and were
ready for a 7:00 am start. The first runner made it
back in 1 hour and 21 minutes (Wow!). The last
walker came back in in just a little over 5 hours
and was welcomed with as much enthusiasm as
the first runner in. Captain Crystal from Morning
Star Balloon Company was very gracious in
providing tethered balloon rides throughout the
morning. It was great fun seeing a Hot Air Balloon
in Battle Ground right next to the Marathon
starting point. Thank you to the Lewis River Dixie
Jazz Band for providing entertainment for the
crowd at BG Village and the numerous sponsors
who lent their support to such a great cause.
The Friends of the BG Community Library raised nearly $5,200 at its annual Harvest Days Book Sale. Many volunteers worked long and fulfilling hours to host this year's book sale – the first at the library's new location in BG Village. The Friends of the Battle Community Library are grateful to the new surroundings and the rewards that come with it. The new Community Meeting Room features a glass wall leading into the children's reading area and it is very rewarding to be able to see the results of year's worth of book sales and other fundraising events. A big "Thank You" to the community for years of support and participation in another great Book Sale!
BG Village also held it's first every "Movie in the Park" featuring the movie Twilight. This was a huge crowd pleaser with numerous requests for a repeat performance (with a different movie of course!). We would also like to thank Battle Ground Cinema's for providing us with the popcorn for this showing and donating movie passes for our various giveaways.
